Welcome

I want to personally thank you for the privilege of caring for your loved one during their end-of-life journey. Nationwide only 50% of people pass away with their earned hospice benefit. Our wish is to serve all people in all communities and change that number, so everyone has compassionate care when they need it most.

Thank you for choosing hospice for your loved one, and thank you for choosing our team. It is truly an honor to serve you.

Sincerely,

Troy Yarborough

Introduction to Hospice Grief Support

Grieving the loss of a loved one is a deeply personal experience, and everyone processes it differently. There is no set timeline for grief, nor is there a single “right” way to heal. However, having a strong support system can provide guidance, helping individuals navigate the emotional, physical, and spiritual challenges that come with loss.

What is Bereavement?

While grief and bereavement are often used interchangeably, they have distinct meanings. Bereavement refers to the state of having lost someone, while grief encompasses the emotional, cognitive, and physical reactions to that loss. In hospice care, supporting the bereaved is a fundamental part of holistic end-of-life care, ensuring family members and close friends receive the resources they need to cope effectively.

Hospice services extend beyond the care of patients; they also provide grief support for families, helping them process their loss with guidance from trained professionals.

How Hospice Supports Bereavement

Hospice care is designed to provide physical, emotional, and spiritual support to individuals facing terminal illness, but its role doesn’t end with the patient’s passing. Hospice teams continue offering grief support before, during, and after the loss, assisting loved ones through their bereavement journey.

Hospice bereavement services may include:

  • Individual and family support via phone, virtual meetings, or in-person visits
  • Bereavement support groups
  • Memorial services and Grief Camps
  • Pre-loss support
  • Referrals to counseling and community resources
  • Informational materials such as booklets, letters, and cards
  • Support for grief during holidays
  • Grief education and community resources

By providing compassionate bereavement care, hospice services offer comfort, hope, and encouragement, helping individuals rediscover strength and purpose in life after loss.

The Role of Bereavement Support Groups

The With You Virtual Support Group meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month midday and in the evening via Zoom.

Connecting with others who understand the pain of loss can be incredibly reassuring, helping individuals move forward with a sense of community and support.

How Long Does Hospice Provide Bereavement Support?

Under the Medicare hospice benefit, bereavement support is available to family members and close friends from the time of a patient’s hospice admission until at least 13 months after their passing. Throughout this period, hospice teams send supportive materials and offer access to additional resources as needed.

Bereavement Support Services

Our bereavement care is led by a team of trained, professional Grief Support Coordinators. Each plays a vital role in helping loved ones navigate their grief. When you need us the most, we are With You.

  • Grief Support Coordinators conduct emotional, psychological, and spiritual assessments, creating personalized grief support plans.
  • Chaplains and Spiritual Counselors help families find meaning, peace, and closure, offering faith-based support tailored to individual beliefs.
  • Hospice Social Workers connect families with community resources, providing emotional support and practical assistance.

Bereavement support often begins while the patient is still receiving hospice care, helping families prepare for the loss. Open conversations about end-of-life wishes can provide clarity and peace, ensuring a loved one’s final moments align with their preferences. The bereavement team is dedicated to facilitating these discussions and providing ongoing guidance to honor everyone’s legacy.
